Child safety checklist for farms released

A brief farm safety checklist has been released by Farmsafe Australia; it aims to highlight the areas on farms and rural properties where special attention needs to be paid to ensure the safety of children and young people.

Around 30 children die each year on Australian farms, and many more are injured. The most hazardous activities for young people up to the age of 14 are working with farm machinery, farm vehicles, motorcycles and, perhaps surprisingly, horses. Young people under 16 are encouraged not to ride on quad bikes.

Farmsafe Australia also recommends that those living on rural properties familiarise themselves with further safety information on the Farmsafe website.
