ACYS calendar of events in the youth field

18 Aug 2006 Social barometer: challenges facing Australian youth
The Brotherhood of St Laurence will launch the second report in its Social Barometer series – the Youth Barometer – at a half-day conference on Friday 18 August.

The Youth Barometer aims to show how well equipped Australian youth are (or are not) to negotiate the important transition from school to the next phase of their development, including further study, training or work. It presents indicators of young people’s capabilities covering seven key dimensions of life from physical and mental health to education and employment.

The conference will include an address by keynote speaker, Richard Sweet, followed by the launch of the Youth Barometer, an overview of current issues facing Australian youth and a panel discussion ‘Where to from here?’.

Keynote speaker Richard Sweet will address the topics of education, training and employment in an international perspective.

Richard is an independent education and training policy analyst based in Sydney, Australia, a Fellow of the University of Melbourne’s Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Lifelong Learning, and Chair of the Executive Board of the International Centre for Career Development and Public Policy. For seven and a half years prior to mid 2005 he was a Principal Analyst in the Directorate for Education of the OECD in Paris.
