• UN Launches International Year of Deserts and Desertification (2006) - 01 January 2006 
  - The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2006 as 'International Year of Deserts and Desertification' with the view to raising public awareness of the issue, and protecting the biological diversity of deserts and the traditional knowledge of those communities affected by desertification.
• UNAA Year of Community 2006 - 01 January 2006 
  - The United Nations Association of Australia has declared 2006 as the National Year of Community.
• Maitland Family History Fair 27 August - 27 July 2006 
  - The Maitland Family History Circle Inc. will be hosting a family history fair. Come along and learn how to trace your family history and pick up a bargain while your there. Lots of stalls, plenty of parking, food, drink & wheelchair access.
• National Tree Day and associated competitions- 30 July 2006 - 30 July 2006 
  - National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree-planting event. Activities will be taking place in communities across Australia. There are also competitions for registered Tree Day sites.
• Afternoon Tea for the Future 22 August - 22 August 2006 
  - ‘What can Australia do about climate change?’ - ‘Will it be too little too late?’ Many of us have made a range of changes to our personal lifestyles and are doing our best to influence those around us. But can we influence the bigger players such as government and business?
• San Anniversary Celebration - 27 August 2006 - 27 August 2006 
  - 10 Year Anniversary of Emergency Care, Jacaranda Lodge, Upgrade of Critical Care and Cardiac Cath Lab Facilities, along with the 20 Year Anniversary of San Day Surgery Hornsby and the 35 Year Anniversary of the Fox Valley Medical & Dental Centre.
• Community Development and the Local Church 2 September - 02 September 2006 
  - Internationally renowned community development expert Mike Green will present this introduction to Assets-Based Community Development (ABCD) for local churches and church-based agencies.
• Music by Mozart and Haydn at Strathfield Town Hall 2 - 3 September - 02 September 2006 
  - Two community based music organisations,the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra and the Taverner Consort of Voices, present Mozart's Haffner Symphony and Haydn's Nelson Mass at Strathfield Town Hall on September 2 and 3.

• The Cottage Big Day Out - 23 September 2006 - 23 September 2006 
  - This annual community open day features lots of fun for all of the family, community stalls,information and interactive action.
• Whale Dreaming Festival 24 September - 24 September 2006 
  - This day is to bring about awareness of our connectedness to the land and of the beauty and majesty of these beautiful creatures of the ocean.
• 6th Ritmo Brazilian Festival 24 September - 24 September 2006 
  - The festival is a free, open-air event. Bring a blanket and enjoy the amazing food and entertainment!
• Hotrod and Streetcar Show 24 September 2006 - 24 September 2006 
  - The 1939 Chev Club and Lansvale United Sports club are holding a Hotrod and Streetcar Show to raise money for the Westmead Children’s Hospital and NRMA Careflight.
• Lunch for Leukaemia 29 or 30 September - 29 September 2006 
  - The Leukaemia Foundation is asking Australians to host a Lunch for Leukaemia on September 29 or 30 to raise vital funds for the 21 Australians diagnosed with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders each day.

• Youth Week website design competition entries close 29 September 2006 -  
  - Young people redesign and redevelop the National Youth Week in NSW website each year to ensure it remains fresh and vibrant for the next Youth Week. Young people aged 12-25 living in NSW are invited to submit a design proposal for the 2007 website.
• Working Together for NSW: An Agreement between the NSW Government and the NSW Non Government Human Services Sector - 21 June 2006 
  - The NSW Government and the NSW Non Government Human Services Sector have negotiated the Working Together for NSW Agreement which sets out a framework for how both the Government and non government sector will better collaborate to improve social policy and human services in the interests of the people of NSW.
• Young Bizstar Pitching Competition closes 1 September - 01 September 2006
