How to Transition to Tertiary Study: for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

WEBINAR: Increasing numbers of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are undertaking studies at university and TAFEs. Many of these students find these learning environments ‘unpredictable, illogical, noisy and populated with people who communicate unclearly and are unreliable’ (Beardon, Martin & Woolsey, 2009).

This webinar will introduce a new resource: How to Transition to Tertiary Study: Helpful Hints for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This freely available new NDCO resource aims to help students with ASD navigate the new learning environment. It includes useful information on the learning context, managing studies, identifying and using strengths, communication tips, and managing stress and anxiety, The resource aims to increase self-determination by assisting students better understand their context, identify when and what supports could be helpful, and encouraging students to seek additional support when necessary.
