The closure of ACYS: statements and responses

This section holds the documents from the end of the clearinghouse: the statements it issued when federal funding was withdrawn, the accounts collected from the youth sector about what the loss would mean, and the material published around the closure itself.

It is kept together deliberately. An organisation's closure is usually recorded only in the announcements of the bodies that closed it, and those announcements say nothing about what the closure cost. Here the two sides sit next to each other - the clearinghouse's own statements, and the responses from services, researchers and workers who had used what it produced. Read together they are the primary record of how a national information service was ended and what the sector said at the time.

The invitation to send in an account of the impact was open while the clearinghouse still existed; it closed with it, and nothing sent to the addresses printed with it now reaches anyone. This site is an independent archive: it is not ACYS, and it cannot pass a message to it or to the University of Tasmania. What it can do is keep these documents readable and citable. Write to the editors of the archive about anything in this section.
