Resources: the ACYS catalogue of youth research and practice material

The clearinghouse kept a catalogue rather than a library. Each record here names one thing published for or about young people - a report, a research paper, a program, an organisation, a survey - says who issued it, summarises what it contains, and points to where it sat when it was catalogued. Nothing in the catalogue was written by the clearinghouse itself, and nothing in it is being recommended now: these are the entries as they were filed, held here as an independent archive.

Read as a whole, the collection does something a search engine cannot. It dates the state of knowledge, because an entry records what was known and worth cataloguing when it was written. It names the bodies doing the work, which is how a reader now finds the successor organisation or the researcher who moved on. And it gives exact titles, which is what a library catalogue or a repository needs before it can find a document that has drifted away from its original address.

Links that leave this site point at pages the clearinghouse recorded. Some still resolve, many have moved, and some of the organisations have closed. Where a link fails, the title and the issuing body in the record are usually enough to find the document elsewhere. Entries are grouped by topic, and the topic lists are the quickest way through the collection.
